Ray Farmer "excited" by Joe Haden deal

Cleveland Browns general manager Ray Farmer is "excited" about the team's future, having tied cornerback Joe Haden down to a five-year contract extension.

Cleveland Browns general manager Ray Farmer has said that he is "excited" to have tied cornerback Joe Haden down to a five-year contract extension.

Haden announced the details of his lucrative new deal on Twitter, having committed himself to the team until at least 2019.

Farmer hailed the 25-year-old as a "true professional" and believes that the Browns will be able to build a team around the cornerback.

"This is a great day for both Joe Haden and the Cleveland Browns. Joe's a good, young player who's made a commitment to our organisation, and he's somebody with whom we want to move forward in order to advance our football team," Farmer is quoted as saying by ESPN.

"He's a great person. He's the right guy to both build with and build around as we attempt to become an elite football team. He's a true professional.

"When we talk about identifying talent, building through the draft, developing solid players and retaining them, Joe Haden's at the top of the list. I'm excited. Our team is excited."

Haden recorded four interceptions in his 15 appearances last season, earning a place in the Pro Bowl for the first time.
