Jerry Jones: 'Only Super Bowl win will stop Tony Romo criticism'

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones feels that quarterback Tony Romo can only silence his critics by winning the Super Bowl with the club.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes that only winning the Super Bowl will silence the critics of quarterback Tony Romo.

The 34-year-old has defied his detractors this season by guiding the Cowboys into the playoffs with a 12-4 record to enter contention for the MVP award for the first time in his career.

Romo made several crucial plays to guide his side to their first win in the post-season since the 2009 season as they defeated the Detroit Lions in the wildcard round at AT&T Stadium.

Jones told reporters: "I hope they see that he's made some pretty impressive plays and had big games. The only thing that will ever get them off his back totally would be to get that Super Bowl win.

"And I can tell him first-hand you can have Super Bowl wins and they'll still get back on your back. So I don't know that they ever permanently get off your back."

The Cowboys face the Green Bay Packers in the divisional round of the playoffs at Lambeau Field on Sunday.
