Kansas City Chiefs have five interceptions in Denver Broncos rout

The Kansas City Chiefs stop the Denver Broncos from scoring until late in the fourth quarter as they win 29-13 at Sports Authority Field.

The Kansas City Chiefs intercepted the Denver Broncos five times on their way to a 29-13 victory at Sports Authority Field as the home side benched Peyton Manning in the second half.

Manning was intercepted with his first passing attempt of the day as Marcus Peters cut off his pass and the Chiefs took advantage as Charcandrick West crossed the plain for the opening touchdown.

The Broncos quarterback then broke the NFL's all-time passing yards record with his second attempt and the game was stopped to celebrate the historic moment.

Kansas City kicker Cairo Santos put up two consecutive field goals, with Sean Smith picking off Manning to set up the second kick.

Josh Mauga made it a hat-trick of interceptions and Santos hit his third field goal of the day, and he continued his fine performance with a fourth as time expired as the Broncos failed to cross mid-field in the first half.

Denver attempted a quick onside kick to start the second half but they did not fool the Chiefs, who would rely on Santos to split the uprights again a few possessions later.

A fourth pick to Ron Parker brought an end to Manning's day, as he was benched for Brock Osweiler late in the third quarter.

However, Osweiler emulated the starting quarterback after a tipped pass was intercepted by Eric Berry and a few plays later, Alex Smith passed it to West, who ran it home for the 80-yard score.

After the play, Broncos safety TJ Ward was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct as he threw a punch at Chiefs receiver Jeremy Maclin.

The Broncos finally put some points on the board late in the game as Ronnie Hillman ran in from a yard away, but the offence failed to make the two-point conversion.

Santos could not remain perfect on the day when a high snap ruined his sixth kick as he failed to reach the goalposts.

Andre Caldwell caught a garbage-time touchdown from Osweiler but it did little to affect the result as the Broncos fall to 7-2 while the Chiefs win their second game in a row.
