Martin Mayhew: 'Detroit Lions have opened talks with DeAndre Levy'

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew admits that the club have started discussions with DeAndre Levy over signing a new deal with the NFC North outfit.

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has revealed that the club have opened talks with linebacker DeAndre Levy over a new contract.

The 28-year-old has become one of the best coverage linebackers in the NFL over the past two seasons, starring in the heart of the NFC North side's defense.

However, Levy is entering the final year of his deal with the Lions, and Mayhew has admitted that the club are ready to discuss his long-term future.

"We've had some dialogue with him," Mayhew told reporters. "I think it's ongoing at this point."

Levy recorded 151 tackles, 2.5 sacks and one interception for the Lions last season.
