Ndamukong Suh: 'I had to do what was best for my family'

Ndamukong Suh reveals that he had to do the best thing for his family by accepting the most expensive deal in NFL history to join the Miami Dolphins.

Ndamukong Suh has revealed that he wanted to return to the Detroit Lions but made the decision to join the Miami Dolphins to do the best thing for his family.

The 28-year-old failed to come to an agreement with the Lions before free agency began, and was subject to several lucrative offers, including one from the NFC North side.

However, Suh opted to join the Miami Dolphins on six-year deal worth up to $114m (£75.3m), becoming the most expensive defensive player in the history of the NFL.

"For me, my goal was always to come back," Suh told the The Detroit Free Press. "I was never looking to want to leave and figure out a different situation.

"But at the end of the day, I have to do what's best for myself and for my family because at the end of the day, those are people I have to look in the eyes each and every single day for the rest of my life and know I made the right decision for us as a whole and for my future and my future kids, my wife, that I'll eventually hopefully have soon."

Suh recorded 239 tackles, 36 sacks and one interception in his five years with the Lions.
