The Minnesota Vikings have announced that Matt Cassel will play no further part in the 2014 NFL season after sustaining a foot injury at the weekend.
The quarterback fractured several bones in his foot during the 20-9 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
The NFC North side confirmed that the 32-year-old, who joined the team as a free agent in the 2013 off-season, has been placed on injured reserve.
Rookie Teddy Bridgewater, who was picked in the first round of this year's Draft, will take over as the team's starter, having replaced Cassel following the injury on Sunday.
