Pre-season roundup: Tom Brady plays in New England Patriots win

Sports Mole rounds up all the action from the latest round of pre-season games in the NFL.

Tom Brady played for the New England Patriots in their pre-season win over the New Orleans Saints.

The quarterback – who is still in a dispute with the NFL over his four-game suspension for the deflategate scandal – played the first three series for his side, but failed to register a first down.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees put his team into a 15-point lead with touchdown strikes to Ben Watson and Brandin Cooks before he was replaced by Luke McCown, who continued his good work by firing to Jordan Hill in the endzone.

New England got on the board before the half when Jimmy Garoppolo found Chris Harper for a score, while Dion Lewis and James White brought the Patriots back into the game in the second half.

Dustin Hopkins put the Saints narrowly ahead, but Stephen Gostkowski added two late field goals to guide his team to a 26-24 win.

Peyton Manning struggled in his time on the field as the Denver Broncos overcame the Houston Texans in their pre-season clash.

Manning played the first quarter, but struggled for rhythm with his throws. His backup Brock Osweiler got the first score of the match when he found Andre Caldwell in the endzone.

The Texans battled back in the third quarter with a field goal and a touchdown when linebacker Kourtnei Brown intercepted Osweiler and ran the ball back 69 yards to the endzone.

However, the Broncos won the game when Corbin Louks collected a pass from Trevor Siemian for a 26-yard touchdown.

Sam Bradford enjoyed a successful return to the field as he played in the Philadelphia Eagles' 40-17 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Ryan Mathews and DeMarco Murray put the Eagles into a commanding lead in the first quarter, while Kenjon Barner added another score in the second quarter to put his side 24-0 ahead at the break.

Bryn Denner finally put the Ravens on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter with a strike to Darren Waller, while he found Daniel Brown in the endzone minutes later, but Kevin Monangai ensured the Eagles secured a comfortable win.

The Carolina Panthers edged out the Miami Dolphins in their pre-season clash at Bank of America Stadium.

Damien Williams put the Dolphins 14-0 ahead with two rushing scores, but Graham Gano brought the Panthers back into the game with three field goals.

The teams exchanged scores in the third quarter when Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore found Matt Hazel in the endzone, but Brandon Wegher responded for the home side with a rushing score.

Wegher added another touchdown in the fourth quarter along with a touchdown from Damiere Byrd as he collected a pass from Joe Webb.

Josh Freeman threw a late strike to Gerell Robinson to bring Miami within a point, but they failed to score from the two-point conversion.

The Chicago Bears beat the Indianapolis Colts 23-11 in their pre-season match at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Robbie Gould fired over two field goals to hand the Bears a 6-0 lead before Andrew Luck went in from five yards to put the Colts ahead.

Gould and Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri exchanged field goals to leave the match at 11-9 at the break, but the Bears upped the ante in the third as Jimmy Clausen found Josh Bellamy in the endzone for a 12-yard score.

Jeremy Langford ensured the visitors' win when he found space in the line to run in from two yards.

The New York Giants secured a 22-12 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in their pre-season showdown at MetLife Stadium.

Field goals from Josh Scobee and James Myers put the Jags 6-0 ahead before Josh Brown got the Giants on the board with a 51-yarder.

Myers and Brown exchanged kicks in the second quarter, before Brown added two further kicks in the third to hand his side the lead.

Dwayne Harris notched the only touchdown of the game when he collected a 12-yard pass from Ryan Nassib, which was enough to hand his side the win.

The Minnesota Vikings scored late to defeat the Oakland Raiders 20-12 in their pre-season match.

Latavius Murray put the Raiders ahead in the first quarter, but Teddy Bridgewater brought the Vikings level with a touchdown strike to Charles Johnson.

Giorgio Tavecchio got a field goal back for the visitors, but Shaun Hill then connected with Chase Ford for a four-yard score.

Tavecchio scored a 37-yard kick for the Raiders to give them hope of a comeback, but Blake Renaud ensured the victory for the home side with a one-yard touchdown run.
