New England Patriots running back Shane Vereen has conceded that his side may have lost the Super Bowl had the Seattle Seahawks ran the ball with Marshawn Lynch on the goalline.
The Patriots clinched the Vince Lombardi trophy as Malcolm Butler intercepted Russell Wilson's pass to Ricardo Lockette on the one-yard line at the University of Phoenix Stadium.
The decision to pass has been maligned by pundits as the All-Pro running back had much success in the ground game against Bill Belichick's men, and Vereen has admitted that he was preparing to go back on the field after the anticipated Seahawks touchdown.
Vereen told NFL Network: "I think it's a different game, I think it's a different ending. When I was on the sideline, and I saw where they had the ball in the situation, we were trying to get some plays together for the offense to try and get at least a field goal to tie the thing up.
"So my focus was mainly more on that, 'cause I definitely thought they were going to hand it to him and he was gonna punch it in."
Vereen caught 11 passes for 64 yards in his side's Super Bowl win.
