New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles has revealed that he would rather be released than traded to another team this off-season.
The Saints would save $3.5m (£2.1m) against the salary cap by parting company with Sproles, although they are thought to be particularly keen on trading him due to the high level of interest shown by other teams.
However, the 30-year-old has expressed his desire to choose his destination rather than be forced to go wherever the Saints send him.
"I want to get released. I don't want to be traded. I don't know where they would send me because I have no control over it, and I want to be able to pick," Sproles told ESPN.
"The good thing is none of the teams I'm told they're talking to are terrible. It's more than two. I feel I should have more of an idea later on today."
Sproles recorded 220 rushing yards and 71 receptions for 604 yards with four touchdowns overall last season.
