Philadelphia Eagles reach NFC East summit with victory over New York Giants

The Philadelphia Eagles claim a 27-7 victory over the New York Giants at Lincoln Field to join their NFC East rivals on 3-3 for the season.

The Philadelphia Eagles have overcome the visiting New York Giants in a 27-7 victory at Lincoln Financial Field.

In a game littered with mistakes from both offenses, the Eagles scored 27 unanswered points to join the Giants on 3-3 and claim top spot in the NFC East.

The Giants made a confident start to the game as Eli Manning found the receiver on all of his first 10 passes, which included a 13-yard delivery to Odell Beckham Jr for a touchdown on the opening drive.

DeMeco Ryans was the first player to step in with an interception to break up the next New York drive, and that play seemed to change the momentum of the contest as Sam Bradford hit back late in the first quarter with a 32-yard pass to Riley Cooper, who turned to take the short step into the endzone.

The lead soon belonged to the Eagles when Manning's second intercepted pass of the night ended in the hands of Nolan Carroll, who celebrated on the 14-yard dash to the endzone as New York paid for a risky move from their quarterback.

Bradford joined Manning in having difficult spells as he delivered the first of three interceptions late in the first half, before the Eagles won the ball back to extend their lead to 17-7 when Caleb Sturgis converted a 37-yard field goal.

A dominant third-quarter defensive display from the home team proved to be crucial and it was DeMarco Murray who took centre stage following a quiet first half as he dodged his rivals on the way to a 12-yard rush to the endzone, before eventually finishing the night with 109 yards to his name.

It continued to be a tough evening for the quarterbacks as Manning struggled to spark a response from the New York offense, while Bradford was intercepted on successive drives after the Murray touchdown.

The chances of an unlikely Giants comeback were dealt another blow in the fourth quarter when Sturgis returned to split the posts from 39 yards with just over eight minutes remaining.

An uneventful finish was pleasing for the Eagles supporters as the hosts eased to the win to edge ahead of the Giants at the top of the NFC East.
