Shane Vereen signs three-year deal with New York Giants

Shane Vereen signs a three-year contract worth up to £8.1m with the New York Giants after being allowed to leave the New England Patriots after four seasons.

The New York Giants have signed running back Shane Vereen after he was allowed to leave the New England Patriots.

The 26-year-old played a crucial part in guiding Bill Belichick's men to their Super Bowl triumph in the 2014 season, but was unable to come to an agreement over a new contract with the Patriots.

Tom Coughlin's men moved quickly to sign Vereen when the free-agent market opened, and the back has penned a three-year deal worth $12.3m (£8.1m), with $4.75m (£3.1m) guaranteed.

The back recorded 838 total yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns for the Patriots last season.
