New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will not be a full participant in off-season practice as he continues to recover from a broken leg.
General manager Mike Maccagnan revealed that the former Houston Texans signal-caller is scheduled to be ready for training camp.
The 32-year-old will be limited in organised team activities prior to that, which suggests that Geno Smith will receive the majority of practice reps in his absence.
Fitzpatrick suffered the injury last December while scrambling against the Indianapolis Colts, but had hoped to compete for a starting role this off-season.
Maccagnan refused to call it an open competition between the two quarterbacks, but did concede that the Jets would see how it plays out.
