Marty Mornhinweg has said that Mark Sanchez is the early favourite to be the New York Jets' starting quarterback in 2013.
The 26-year-old lost the starting role to Greg McElroy towards the end of last season.
The Jets' new offensive coordinator told reporters: "Mark will probably have just a little bit of a leg up, it would appear.
"I would like to have competition at that position as well as all the other positions. There are a select few on this football team that have kind of earned the right to step in there as No. 1 on the depth chart.
"I certainly would like competition at all the other spots, including the quarterback spot."
Sanchez threw 18 interceptions during his 15 games in 2012.
