Report: Santonio Holmes ready to take pay cut to stay with New York Jets?

New York Jets wideout Santonio Holmes says that he would consider taking a pay cut to stay with the franchise past the end of the current campaign.

New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes will take a cut to his salary to stay with the franchise in 2014, according to reports.

The 29-year-old has two years remaining on his current deal with the Jets, with his salary being reduced to $7.5m ($4.6m) before the beginning of the current campaign.

However, it was suggested that Holmes may be ready to give up more of his wage to remain with Rex Ryan's men.

Holmes told the New York Daily News: "Anything for the team. Would I mind if the team wanted me to take a pay cut? Probably not. I mean with the production comes big pay so you have to do your job."

Holmes's original deal with the Jets was worth $45m (£27.5m) back in 2010, but his career has stuttered thanks to Lisfranc and hamstring injuries over the last two seasons.
