Barry Sanders will replace Hank Williams Jr. on Monday Night Football this week, after the singer compared US President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler.
ESPN last week pulled Williams's traditional introduction, which had been a part of the show since 1989, and have decided to instead have a different public figure introduce the game each week from now on.
Sanders, who spent his entire professional career with the Detroit Lions, has been chosen to introduce the first Monday night game in Detroit in over 10 years as the Lions face the Chicago Bears.
Williams Jr. has apologised for the controversial remarks, made on Fox News' Fox & Friends, in which he likened President Obama's game of golf with Speaker of the House John Boehner to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu golfing with Hitler.
