Derek Carr won't need surgery

Oakland Raiders star Derek Carr expects to avoid surgery on his injured finger.

The agent of Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has revealed that his client won't require surgery on his injured finger after experiencing numbness.

The Raiders hope the second-year signal-caller will respond to rehabilitation which will allow him to avoid a procedure.

"It's a very minor situation," agent Tim Younger told the San Francisco Chronicle.

"I think he's probably going to be throwing before the end of [the Raiders' off-season workouts]."

Carr started all 16 games in his rookie season, but Christian Ponder is currently working with the first team in organised team activities.
