Del Rio: "Carr is a special young talent"

Oakland Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio believes that the club have a "special talent" in quarterback Derek Carr following his solid rookie season.

The Raiders selected the 23-year-old in the second round of the 2014 Draft, and he immediately became the club's starter, displacing veteran Matt Schaub as the signal caller.

Carr produced a series of good performances for the Raiders in the campaign, despite their struggles, leading Del Rio to believe that he has a solid foundation to work with after being appointed as the club's new head coach.

"Carr's a special young talent," Del Rio told The Jim Rome Show. "He's got a really quick release, good decision-maker; he's shown some of that grit we're looking for, some of that toughness, so he's a guy that we feel like we have an opportunity to build around."

Carr threw for 3,270 yards along with 21 touchdowns to 12 interceptions in the 2014 season.
