Philadelphia Eagles hold off Washington Redskins fightback to win

The Philadelphia Eagles record their first home win of the season, seeing off a late fightback by the Washington Redskins to seal a 24-16 victory.

The Philadelphia Eagles held off a fourth-quarter rally from the Washington Redskins to seal their first home win of the season this evening, beating their NFC East rivals 24-16.

The Eagles took the lead late in the first quarter when Nick Foles rushed up the middle for a four-yard touchdown to continue his impressive recent form.

They extended this advantage early in the second quarter when LeSean McCoy went over from a yard out to score shortly after the Eagles had seen another touchdown overturned by the replay assistant.

Alex Henery added another three points with just under four minutes left of the first half to give his side a 17-point lead going into the halfway stage.

Things got even better for the hosts in the third quarter as McCoy bagged his second touchdown of the night, crashing over from a yard out once again.

The Redskins finally got on the board early in the fourth quarter when Robert Griffin III threw deep left to Darrel Young, who collected the pass to complete a 62-yard touchdown.

Griffin successfully found Nick Williams for a two-point conversion, and the 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year raised hopes of a remarkable recovery shortly afterwards when he found Aldrick Robinson for a 41-yard touchdown.

Another successful two-point conversion, this time from a Griffin run, closed the gap to just eight points with six minutes remaining in the quarter, but the Redskins could not find another score as the Eagles held on for the win.
