Report: Seattle Seahawks to release Sidney Rice

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Sidney Rice will be released by the team, according to reports.

The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly decided to release wide receiver Sidney Rice.

The 27-year-old is due to earn $17.5m (£10.5m) in base salary over the next two seasons, but has played in just 33 games in the last three seasons.

After ESPN reported that the receiver's release was imminent, Rice said on Twitter: "The number 12 will remain on the left side of my chest no matter what! Grateful for the opportunity to share so many special moments [with] y'all."

Rice, who is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, recorded 231 receiving yards in the 2013 season.
