Seattle Seahawks dominate San Francisco 49ers in NFC West clash

The Seattle Seahawks draw first blood in their rivalry with the San Francisco 49ers, as they hammer Jim Harbaugh's side 29-3 in their NFC West clash.

The Seattle Seahawks improved to 2-0 in their season with a 29-3 hammering of their NFC West rivals the San Francisco 49ers.

Defense dominated the early stages of the game, but play was to be halted in the first quarter due to severe weather conditions in the surrounding areas.

After an hour off the field, the teams returned and the Seahawks registered the first points of the game via a two-point safety after 49ers fullback Bruce Miller held Malcolm Smith in the endzone.

Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson was taking a hammering in the pocket from linebackers Ahmad Brooks and Aldon Smith, but he still drove his team downfield to set up three more points from the boot of kicker Steven Hauschka to give them a 5-0 advantage at half time.

After the break, Wilson again got his offense into gear and benefited from a big penalty from Brooks as he grabbed the quarterback's facemask.

The Seahawks drove into the 20 and running back Marshawn Lynch powered into the endzone on a 14-yard run to extend the hosts' lead.

San Francisco tried to respond as Colin Kaepernick rallied his offense but the Seahawks defense kept them out of the endzone and forced the visitors to settle for 21-yard field goal from Phil Dawson, which left the score at 12-3.

Wilson and his offense continued to benefit from penalties from the 49ers' defense and he made them pay with a 14-yard strike to Lynch following a blitz allowing the running back to walk into the endzone.

San Francisco were looking to force the issue in the fourth quarter to get back into the game but their task became harder when Kaepernick's pass was intercepted by Richard Sherman, which allowed Hauschka to kick a 37-yard field goal.

Kaepernick turned the ball over again on the next series, this time Kam Chancellor picked him off. Lynch went over from two-yards to give Pete Carroll's side a commanding lead.

The 49ers committed another turnover on the kickoff return, allowing Seattle to end the game with a kneel down to secure the victory.
