Minnesota Vikings scrape past St Louis Rams in overtime

The Minnesota Vikings move to 6-2 for the season as they beat the St Louis Rams 21-18 at the TCF Bank Stadium.

The Vikings went in front early after a Blair Walsh field goal was followed by quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who led a drive down the field that was capped off by an Adrian Peterson six-yard touchdown run.

St Louis came back with seven points of their own as Todd Gurley punched the ball home from a yard out after Nick Foles got his team a huge chunk of yardage when he connected with Kenny Britt for a 55-yard reception.

Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein put his team in the lead with three consecutive field goals in the second quarter, which included a NFL-best 61-yard attempt as the away team led 15-10 at half time.

After the break, Minnesota got themselves back in front after a strong drive was finished off by Bridgewater, who ran it in from six yards away and the quarterback also converted the two-point conversion with another rush attempt.

Bridgewater was injured a few drives later as he slid to the ground, hitting his head and being knocked unconscious.

Zuerlein missed a late field goal attempt that would have tied the game with less than two minutes to play, but he got a second chance with time almost expired and the kicker nailed his second attempt to send the game into overtime.

Foles failed to make anything of the Rams' first possession in overtime and the Vikings would take advantage, as Walsh hit the 40-yard field goal to win the game.

The victory moves the Vikings temporarily level at the top of the NFC North at 6-2, while the Rams sit second in the NFC West at 4-4.
