Taylor Lewan: 'Zach Mettenberger will fight for starting spot'

Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Taylor Lewan insists that Zach Mettenberger will battle Marcus Mariota all the way to be the club's starting quarterback next season.

Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Taylor Lewan believes that Zach Mettenberger will not give up the starting quarterback position to Marcus Mariota without a fight in the off-season.

The 23-year-old started six games for the Titans last year and had a decent showing in his rookie season, despite the club's struggles.

The Titans put Mettenberger's place in jeopardy by using the second overall pick on Mariota, who the club have revealed will be their starter for the 2015 campaign.

However, Lewan is adamant that Mettenberger will battle it out to keep his job from the 21-year-old.

"That is the mentality that Zach has," Lewan told The Tennessean. "He thinks of himself as a starter, and the guys in the locker room do also. I don't think he is going to give it up easily.

"Mariota, I don't know the guy and I am sure he is a great worker and from everything I hear about him he's a great guy. But Zach is not the kind of guy who in conflict is going to flee. He's going to fight it out."

Mettenberger threw for 1,412 yards and eight touchdowns to seven interceptions for the AFC South club last season.
