Jason McCourty: 'N-word common amongst teammates'

Tennessee Titans cornerback Jason McCourty believes that the NFL's proposal to ban the N-word during matches is "a bit much".

Tennessee Titans cornerback Jason McCourty has expressed his belief that the NFL's proposal to ban the use of the N-word during matches is "a bit much".

The league's competition committee is expected to discuss the potential rule change later this month, with a 15-yard penalty being suggested for any player heard using the racial slur.

However, McCourty revealed that the word is regularly used in everyday life by a number of the players and hinted that it would be tough for the NFL to succeed with their plan to ban it.

"It's a common word in so many players' everyday lives," McCourty told themmqb.com.

"Among African-American players and people, it's used among friends all the time. It seems like a bit much for the NFL to try to get rid of it. It's a pretty common word in the locker room."

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman also spoke out against the proposal, labelling it an "atrocious idea".
