Brian Orakpo unlikely to sign Washington Redskins extension

The Washington Redskins are unlikely to offer linebacker Brian Orakpo a long-term extension despite being an effective part of their roster since 2009.

Washington Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo is reportedly unlikely to agree to a long-term extension with the franchise before Tuesday's deadline.

The 27-year-old had the franchise tag placed on him earlier this off-season but he is believed to be chasing a long-term contract.

Orakpo had a 10-sack season last year and has never recorded fewer than seven in a full campaign, however it appears as though the Redskins will not offer new terms in time, according to CNN.

Rookie coach Jay Gruden has previously been quoted as saying that he would be willing to allow Orakpo to play out his franchise tag and "see what happens".
