Azerbaijan archer Aleksey Kopnin has suggested that he did all he could after he was eliminated from the men's last-32 round against Russian Federation competitor Bair Tsybekdorzhiev.
Kopnin, who was ranked 50th, put in a strong effort in the face of his 15th-ranked opponent, but he finally fell short following an impressive surge from Tsybekdorzhiev.
"I was thinking 'he shot 10 and now I have to do the same' and I did. But in each set I shot eight once and those eights made me lose the match," Kopnin told reporters.
"My competitor is really strong, he is one of the best in Russia. But I did the best I could, considering the Azerbaijani team's level. The Europeans are so strong, competing with them is really tough.
"Even I did not expect such a performance from me."
Azerbaijan currently hold second spot in the tournament's medals table, with Russia leading the way in first place.
