Kim Mickle claims gold for Australia in the javelin final, while England's Goldie Sayers settles for seventh at the Commonwealth Games.

Australia's Kim Mickle set a new Commonwealth Games record on her way to the gold medal in Wednesday's javelin final in Glasgow.

Mickle's best throw came at the second attempt in the final, with her rivals failing to even come close to matching her throw of 65.96m.

South Africa's Sunette Viljoen claimed silver with an effort of 63.19m, while Kelsey-Lee Roberts managed to edge out Australian teammate Kathryn Mitchell to secure the final spot on the podium.

Seven-time British champion Goldie Sayers, competing for England, was forced to settle for a seventh-place finish after a best throw of 57.68m.

England's remaining participants, Izzy Effs and Freya Jones, finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the final.
