Nijel Amos: 'David Rudisha is still the hero of 800m'

Nijel Amos calls David Rudisha the "hero" of the 800m after beating the Kenyan to the Commonwealth title on Thursday evening.

Nijel Amos elected to pay tribute to David Rudisha after edging out the Kenyan to secure the 800m gold medal at the Commonwealth Games on Thursday night.

Olympic champion Rudisha had led for the majority of the race in Hampden Park, but Amos produced an excellent response in the home straight to storm past his rival and take the title for Botswana.

"I am so happy, but David Rudisha will always be the hero of 800m," the 20-year-old told BBC Sport.

Amos finished second as Rudisha broke the world record on his way to the Olympic gold medal in London two years ago.
