Greg Rutherford: 'Gold medal more important than performance'

Greg Rutherford insists that his only target at the Commonwealth Games is to finish on top of the podium.

Greg Rutherford has insisted that he would be happy to win Commonwealth gold in Glasgow with a jump that is below his best.

The Olympic long jump champion has struggled with a number of injury problems since triumphing in London two years ago, and he has revealed that finishing ahead of his rivals is his only target at Hampden Park this week.

"I would love to go and jump something massive again and win - it would be a really special occasion, but, if I jump 7.90 and win with it, I'll take that," Rutherford told BBC Sport.

Rutherford, who begins his campaign on Tuesday, set a British record with a jump of 8.51m earlier this year.
