Chris Tomlinson considers postponing retirement

Chris Tomlinson hints to Sports Mole that his Commonwealth Games performance may make him reconsider his retirement plans.

Team England's Chris Tomlinson has hinted that he might alter his plans to retire from the long jump.

The 32-year-old posted his best placing at a Commonwealth Games tonight - fifth, with a best jump of 7.99m - and suggested to Sports Mole afterwards that the result might make him think about extending his career to the 2018 Games on the Gold Coast.

"I always said I'd go to 2017 and then call it a day, but I ain't got a Commonwealth medal [yet]!" he said. "[At the Commonwealths] I've finished sixth, sixth and now fifth.

"I'm one of the athletes who loves what I do and I'm passionate about sport. There are certain athletes who do it because it pays the bills at the end of the day. I do it because I love it. I love these big stadiums, these big crowds. So we'll see, we'll see."

Tomlinson's teammate Greg Rutherford took gold in Glasgow tonight with a best jump of 8.20m.
