Goldie Sayers through to javelin final

Captain Goldie Sayers advances through to the final of the women's javelin at the European Championships.

Great Britain captain Goldie Sayers required just one qualifying throw to reach the final of the women's javelin at the European Athletics Championships in Zurich earlier today.

To qualify, competitors were required to throw a distance of at least 57.50m.

Sayers, who has been plagued by injuries in recent years, did that at the first time of asking with a throw of 58.07m, which was the ninth furthest recorded overall.

The 32-year-old's best performance at a major event to date came at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where she finished fourth.
