Philes Ongori pulls out of Commonwealth Games

Kenya's marathon hopeful Philes Ongori pulls out of the Commonwealth Games due to an undisclosed injury.

Kenya's Philes Ongori has pulled out of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow due to injury.

The 2009 world half marathon silver medallist was expected to be a contender for a medal in the longest distance, but team manager Paul Mutwii has confirmed that she will miss out due to an undisclosed injury.

"The information I am getting is that Philes Ongori, who is one of the three ladies enlisted for the marathon race will not be coming with us," Mutwii revealed in a statement.

"The reason is she has just suffered an injury and therefore is unable to compete. Ongori had revealed she had an injury, which she had recovered from but it recurred during her training for the Commonwealth marathon on July 27."

Caroline Kilel and Filomena Cheyech are now the only two Kenyans who will race in the marathon.
