The husband of Kenyan runner Agnes Tirop, who was found stabbed to death at her home last month, pleads not guilty to her murder.

The husband of the late Agnes Tirop has pleaded not guilty to the Olympian's murder.

Tirop was found stabbed to death at her home at the age of 25 in October, with her husband - 41-year-old Ibrahim Rotich - arrested not long afterwards.

Rotich allegedly attempted to flee the country before being detained by the authorities, and he entered his not guilty plea in court on Tuesday morning.

According to Kenyan outlet The Star, Rotich said: "It's not true your honour," when asked to respond to the murder charge after being found fit to stand trial following a mental health assessment.

Rotich's lawyer also applied for the 41-year-old to be released on bail, with a hearing now set for December 1 as the case continues.

Tirop won bronze medals in the 10,000 m at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships and came fourth in the 5,000 m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics a few months before her death.
