Hannah Cockroft: 'I need to become world champion for Rio 2016 success'

Paralympic champion Hanna Cockroft says that she needs to win gold at the World Championships in order to gain success at Rio 2016.

Paralympic champion Hannah Cockroft believes that she needs to be victorious in the World Championships in October in order to fight her way to glory at Rio 2016.

The 22-year-old had a positive 2014 by winning the IPC European Championship T34 100m and 800m finals, and was also named British Athletics Paralympic Athlete of the Year.

"In reality, I need to become world champion to even consider getting to Rio," Cockroft told The Independent. "I'm racing the 800m now because that is the event on offer in Rio for me. I'm training every single day because I don't know what the other girls can do."

Cockroft has two Paralympic gold medals to her name.
