IAAF reveals world record bonus

The International Association of Athletics Federations reveals that a bonus of $100,000 (£63,870) will be given to any athlete who breaks a record at the World Championships in Beijing.

The International Association of Athletics Federations has announced that any athlete who breaks a world record at this month's World Championships will receive a $100,000 (£63,870) bonus.

Any athlete who improves upon an existing world record will be eligible for the bonus, but if the athlete ties the current record they will not be given the reward.

In the 32-year history of the Championships, 20 world records have been broken, with the Jamaican 4x100m relay team setting the latest record in 2011.

This year's event begins on Saturday in Beijing.
