India edge out Singapore for men's singles badminton gold

Kashyap Parupalli beats Singapore's Derek Wong to win gold for India in the men's singles at the Commonwealth Games.

Kashyap Parupalli has won Commonwealth Games gold for India in the men's singles, by beating Singapore's Derek Wong.

The 27-year-old came out on top 2-1 at the Emirates Arena in a match that went the distance.

A 21-12 triumph in the first game gave Parupalli the lead, but Wong battled back to win the second 11-21.

Parupalli showed real character to win the deciding game 21-19 in a time of 24 minutes to take gold.

India also secured bronze in the men's singles competition, courtesy of R V Gurusaidutt's victory over England's Rajiv Ouseph.
