Ireland's Chloe Magee 'gutted' by mixed doubles semi-final defeat

Ireland's Chloe Magee admits that is "very disappointing" to lose out to France in the badminton mixed doubles semi-final in Baku.

Chloe Magee has conceded that Ireland "were not good enough" to claim European Games gold in the badminton mixed doubles.

The 26-year-old, alongside teammate Sam Magee, failed to overcome France in this morning's semi-final as they fell to a 21-12 23-21 defeat.

Despite the disappointment of missing out on a place in the gold-medal final, top seed Magee admits that there is still plenty to be cheerful about as one of four Irish medallists at the inaugural competition.

"It's very disappointing, gutting. The second game was good, the first game was not good enough," she told reporters.

"It's my first European medal, and I always wanted one. In the end, you have to be happy. How many times in the past has an Irish person walked away with a European medal?"

The French team, made up of Gaetan Mittelhessen and Audrey Fontaine, were seeded fourth heading into Baku 2015.
