The Houston Astros made World Series history to tie the 2022 tournament 1-1 against the Philadelphia Phillies at Minute Maid Park.
The American League West champions had let a 5-0 lead slip in Game 1 as they fell to a 6-5 defeat, but they responded with a 5-2 success in Game 2 following a lightning-quick start.
Jose Altuve, Jeremy Pena and Yordan Alvarez contributed to the Astros starting the game with four doubles from three pitches, becoming the first team in World Series history to open a match with a trio of consecutive extra-base hits.
Alvarez capitalised on an error from Edmundo Sosa to make it 3-0 to the Astros in the first inning, and a two-run homer from Alec Bregman increased the Astros' advantage to 5-0.
Not until the seventh inning would the Phillies finally get on the board through Nick Castellanos, and Kyle Schwarber's two-run homer was then called foul as the Astros held firm.
Philadelphia reduced the deficit further in the ninth inning through Alec Bohm after an error, but there were no further runs for the National League champions, who travel to Citizens Bank Park for Game 3 on Monday night.
