Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors scored the most points ever in an NBA quarter last night, racking up 37 in the third period against the Sacramento Kings at Oracle Arena.
The shooting guard hit all 13 of his field-goal attempts, nine of which were three-pointers, and connected on two free throws to pass the previous record of 33 set by George Gervin and Carmelo Anthony.
Thompson's nine threes in one quarter is also an NBA record and his incredible haul was the main reason for the Warriors' 126-101 triumph - the score was 58-58 when the 24-year-old's third-quarter eruption started with just 9:45 remaining in the period.
In total, Thompson scored 52 in the game for Golden State, who have the NBA's best record (35-6) and extended their club-record winning streak at home to 18 games.
His 37 in the third accounted for all but four of the hosts' points, with Sacramento only managing 22 as a team in reply.
