USA newcomer Kenneth Faried talks up the leadership qualities of teammate and Houston Rockets shooting guard James Harden after his performances at the World Cup.

US national basketball newcomer Kenneth Faried has talked up the leadership qualities of guard James Harden following his performances during the World Cup.

Harden has been in impressive form during the tournament, with a number of observers having their heads turned at the Houston Rockets shooting guard's ability to lead his teammates on the court.

"James is huge for us," said Faried, according to The Houston Chronicle.

"He coaches up guys who are down and coaches down guys who might be too high on themselves. He levels the team out and makes sure that everybody stays focused and locked in."

Harden shot to prominence on the international circuit having represented team USA during the 2012 Olympics in London.
