Los Angeles Lakers star Xavier Henry has suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon and he has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Henry sustained the injury during practice and an MRI scan on Monday confirmed the severity of the injury shortly after.
"Results revealed a completely torn Achilles," a source told ESPN.
The 23-year-old, who was expected to have surgery on Tuesday morning in Los Angeles, is now the third player on the Lakers roster to be ruled out for the entire year.
Veteran guard Steve Nash and rookie Julius Randle were sidelined by back and leg injuries respectively, while reserve forward Ryan Kelly is currently out of action with a hamstring tear.
In nine games with the Lakers this season, Henry averaged 2.2 points over 9.6 minutes and following his confirmed absence, the franchise will likely apply for a hardship exception from the NBA to add a 16th player to the roster.
