Report: Los Angeles Lakers granted player exception

The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly receive a player exception to sign a free-agent replacement for their injured rookie Julius Randle.

The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly been granted a Disabled Player Exception by the NBA after rookie forward Julius Randle suffered a long-term leg injury earlier this month.

The Lakers were supposedly granted the exception after it was determined that Randle is "substantially" more likely than not to miss the rest of his first season in the league.

According to league rules, the Lakers can now use the exception to sign a free agent to replace Randle using half of his rookie salary, ESPN reports.

It is understood that the franchise are not rushing to make a signing this week but there is speculation that such exceptions come with an expiration date which is believed to be around March 10.

The Lakers have also had to deal with the loss of veteran point guard Steve Nash for the season while Nick Young remains sidelined by injury.
