The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly tried to trade for former Cleveland Cavaliers star Dion Waiters ahead of his switch to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Waiters was part of a three-team trade deal on Monday night involving the Cavaliers, Thunder and New York Knicks with Cleveland acquiring JR Smith and Iman Shumpert.
The Lakers were among the teams that tried to sign Waiters but were unable to offer an attractive enough deal, according to ESPN.
The Lakers have the cap space to add a star name in free agency and they have previously insisted that they will look to acquire talent to pair with Kobe Bryant in the final year of his contract.
However, they faced the same problem last month when Rajon Rondo opted to join the Dallas Mavericks after the Boston Celtics agreed to trade him.
