Davis gains weight for new season

Anthony Davis has revealed that he has been bulking up ahead of the 2013-14 NBA season.

The New Orleans Pelicans power forward and center has been working through a weight training and conditioning program as he prepares for his second season in the league.

Last year's number one Draft pick told the Pelicans' website: "I've gained at least 10 or 12 pounds. I want to gain at least five more before training camp starts.

"I've just been [working] with [director of player performance] Carlos [Daniel] a lot. They have me lifting weights. I've been staying on top of it, eating more, making sure I'm eating breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everything helps. It's showing.

"I just want to become a better basketball player, a better person and a better teammate. I know some guys take their time off, and I did as well. But it's grind time now. [I'm] just working as hard as I can, leading the pack."

The 20-year-old averaged 13.5 points per game during his rookie season.
