Adam Silver open to NBA playoff changes

NBA commissioner Adam Silver reveals that he is genuinely considering making changes to the current playoff format.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver has revealed that he would be open to making changes to the current playoff format that the league adopts.

Silver conceded that he would consider a revamp of the current system by eliminating conference seeding and instead going with the league's 16 best teams.

"Ultimately we want to see your best teams in the playoffs. And there is an imbalance and a certain unfairness," he said during a Comcast SportsNet Bay Area live Q&A.

The Western Conference has had an edge over the East for many years and teams on that side of the league have 10 of the NBA's best 16 records so far this season.

As part of Silver's plan, the six division winners would receive automatic berths and the remaining 10 playoff positions would be determined by overall records regardless of the conference affiliation.
