Tom Gola, a member of the basketball Hall of Fame, passed away on Sunday at the age of 81.
The five-time NBA All-Star was best known for his time with the Philadelphia Warriors, before moving with the franchise to San Francisco.
Gola suffered serious injuries to his head in 2003 following a fall from a curb.
"I am deeply saddened to hear the news about the passing of Tom Gola, a former teammate and one of the true gentlemen of the game," former Warriors teammate Al Attles said in a statement.
"He was a Hall of Fame player, but an even better person."
Gola was a key member of the La Salle team that won the 1954 NCAA title.
