The Oklahoma City Thunder are closing in on the appointment of Billy Donovan as their new head coach, according to reports.
Thunder general manager Sam Presti has held talks with the Florida Gators coach about making the step up to the NBA as they look to find a replacement for Scott Brooks, who was fired last week after a seven-season spell in Oklahoma.
Donovan is close to agreeing a deal with the Thunder, according to ESPN, and a formal announcement could be just a few days away as the 49-year-old continues to consider all of his options.
Both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves were interested in Donovan a year ago before he decided to spend another campaign at college level.
Donovan, who has won two NCAA tournaments with the Gators, briefly served as head coach of the Orlando Magic in 2007 before reversing his decision a week later.
