Mike Malone: 'Sacramento Kings focused on long-term success'

Mike Malone claims that the Sacramento Kings are focused on securing long-term success.

Mike Malone has insisted that he is looking for long-term success in his new role as head coach of the Sacramento Kings.

The Kings failed to qualify for the playoffs last season under the guidance of Keith Smart but his replacement insists that the franchise will not be looking for a quick fix this year.

"We have to change the culture, establish an identity, and while we'll try to win every night, we don't want to skip steps," Malone told the Sacramento Bee. "We don't want short-term success.

"I'm not sure what year we get into our new arena, but by that year, we want to be a playoff team, and not to just be competing in the playoffs.

"When the players come back in September, they're going to get a sense that things are different when they're around our staff."

The Kings begin their league campaign against the Denver Nuggets on October 30.
