Tony Bellew confirms move to cruiserweight

World title challenger Tony Bellew confirms that he plans to make the step up to cruiserweight after losing to WBC light-heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson on Saturday night.

World title challenger Tony Bellew has revealed that he has had to remain on a diet for six years to continue to make weight ahead of fights in the light-heavyweight division.

Bellew, who was stopped by WBC champion Adonis Stevenson on Saturday night, has announced plans to move up to cruiserweight, and the Liverpudlian believes that fans will see the best of him in 2014.

The 31-year-old told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I've basically been on a diet for six years. I can't continue to punish my body the way that I do. I think it's time for a new chapter and I'll be making the step up to cruiserweight.

"It will be better for the fans because I'll be in much more exciting fights again. I'll be back to the old me. I want to fight the best people out there and ultimately, I'm determined to win a world championship."

Bellew's decision comes just five weeks after former light-heavyweight rival Nathan Cleverly also opted to move up a weight class.
