Sergey Kovalev: 'I will go to war with Andre Ward'

Unified world light-heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev says that he and Andre Ward "will go to war" when they meet in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Sergey Kovalev has said that he feels in the "best shape" ahead of his world light-heavyweight showdown with Andre Ward.

Kovalev will put his WBA, IBF and WBO belts on the line in a fight which is regarded as the best match-up of 2016, and the hard-punching Russian is predicting that he and American Ward will have a "war".

The 33-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "If you are never nervous, it is not good. I am in the best shape right now for this fight.

"This fight is a great opportunity for both of us to show the boxing world who is the best pound-for-pound. It's going to be a war between us."

The winner of the bout in Las Vegas will be regarded by many as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
