British super-middleweight Brian Magee has revealed that he was in "total shock" when he was told that he has failed a drug test.
After losing to Mikkel Kessler inside three rounds in December, Magee tested positive for the banned substance oxilofrine, but after he was deemed to have taken the drug unintentionally, he was only handed a six-month ban that will expire on July 29.
The 38-year-old told reporters: "I was in total shock when I was told I had tested positive, and I honestly thought someone was playing a joke.
"All I could think was that I could get a lifetime ban or even a two-year ban which at my age, would have meant my career was as good as over.
"I have had 30 or 40 tests in my career and never tested positive. I have always been extremely careful about everything I have taken, and I didn't do anything differently before the Kessler fight."
The Northern Irishman has insisted that he wants to continue his 42-fight career, which has brought 36 victories, five losses and a draw.
